Knoxville Wedding Photographer – Amber Lowe Photo – 2016 A Year in Review
2016 Phrase: Joy is Yours
It turned out to be a phrase that God had been speaking over my life for years. And this year, it would mean more than it has in a long time. It rang so deep that I made it permanent with a tattoo.
I have a love/hate relationship with this time of year. Goal planning.
My Type -A personality LOVES it but soul screams, “NOOOO! Not more expectations!” I’ve struggled for years when it comes to goals. So I decided last year to have only 3 business goals and 2 personal ones. I’ll focus on the business side right now since the personal ones are for another blog post.
1- Be a vendor at a bridal show
2- Get published
3- Love and serve my clients better than last year (I keep this one every year)
And ya’ll God outdid what I wanted. I was a vendor at 3 small bridal shows.
I was featured in Huffington Post, Borrowed & Blue, and started doing some freelance work for Scripps. And I rebranded! Which, honestly, was more of a dream than a goal.
Seriously, all glory to God for exceeding my expectations and goals. But at the end of the year, I just wanted to make sure my brides and grooms knew how appreciated and valued they were. Because if it wasn’t for them, I wouldn’t be where I am at the end of 2016.
In this industry, it’s so easy to get caught up in profit, sales, likes, the perfect instagram feed, the prettiest brand and logo, and popularity. I personally believe that if you get caught up in all of these or anything else other than a passion for your art and people, you’re gonna get burnt out. It’s funny how all of that relates to our relationship with the Lord. It’s easy to be a believer. Go to church, do “good deeds”, have a nice life….that’s easy. But God calls us to more than that. Love for God and love for others. Passion. Because He has great passion for us. So take a deep breath, because joy is yours. Passion is yours. Find joy not in the earthly things but in the eternal things.
So not only have I seen God work in my business like crazy but I’ve also had the honor of shooting some incredible weddings and getting to know some of the sweetest people I’ve ever met in my entire life. So here’s a few of my favorites from this year.
First here’s some of my favorite wedding moments and portraits from this year.
I was also incredibly fortunate to travel to 2 new cities this year. Yay for new stickers on the map!
Like the time I travelled to Chicago for Catherine and Chris’s wedding
Or the time I flew to Pheonix for a conference and climbed a mountain in the desert for this styled shoot
And last but not least, some of my favorite engagement sessions happened this year.
Needless to say, 2016 has been a wild ride but I wouldn’t change it for anything.
